May Day: KADUNA STATE GOVT CHALLENGES WORKERS ON PRODUCTIVITY

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani has reaffirmed the commitment of his administration towards improved welfare of the civil servants.

He was speaking at this year’s May Day celebration for the Workers, with the theme “People First,” orgsnised by the state chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress NLC and Trade Union Congress TUC.

According to him his government would continue to give special attention to hard work and commitment to duty by workers in the payroll of the state.

Governor Uba Sani therefore commended the NLC and TUC for encouraging civil servants and all category of workers to put in their best towards improved socio economic development.

He then identified the May Day Celebration as an avenue for gingering workers world over to fight for their rights towards enhanced performance.

In a remark the Kaduna State chairman Council of the Nigerian Labour Congress NLC, Comrade Ayuba Magaji Sueiman said the theme of this year’s International Workers Day Celebration has been strategically chosen by the national leadership of NLC and the TUC, as a pointer to the government on the need to prioritize the issues and concerns of people.

He stressed the need for investing in social programmes that provide essential services, such as health care, education and housing to all Nigerians.

Comrade Ayuba Suleiman however decried that many government policies and actions have fallen short of putting people first.

He commended Kaduna State governor Mallam Uba Sani for his commitment and concern for the improved welfare of workers in the payroll of the government.

Speaking to Journalists at the May Day Celebration, the Zonal chairman Independent Marketers Branch of NUPENG IMB Kaduna, Comrade Yusuf Olaide advised that government should adhere strictly to all policies and programmes targeted at uplifting Nigerians.

According to him some petroleum marketers are aggrieved especially on delayed payment of depts owed them by government, saying others are even threatening to close down their businesses.

Comrade Olaide added that lack of prompt payment of transport and other claims is also affecting smooth supply and distribution of Petroleum Products in the country.

The IMB Zonal chairman contended that the cost of cooking gas has skyrocketed in the country, hence the need for government to take proactive and adequate measures to address the problem.

The unionist further advised that government should effectively monitor regulatory agencies to ensure smooth operation of the oil sector.

The labour leader commended the Labour unions in the country on the occasion of this year’s May Day Celebration, and called for unity and progress of Nigerian Workers.
